Lili la Scala is a vintage broad with a powerful voice, sky-high heels, and razor-sharp wit who can be found delighting audiences world-wide with her captivating style. Lili is one of the UK's top female cabaret comperes and is in huge demand for her naughty sense of humour and epic gowns. A devotee of old-school Hollywood glamour, and trained at one of London's finest musical academies, this doll-like dame seduces with her pin-up looks and nightingale voice. We find out more from Lili La Scala herself...
What periods do you cover in your repertoire?
1900 – 1950 (with some exceptions!)
What are your favourite numbers?
I love Gracie Fields and some of her comedy songs are my favourites. I love 'Will You Love Me
When I'm Mutton". I also love Ivor Novello – his 'Dark Music' is one of my signature tunes.
What inspired you to focus on this genre over other styles of music & performance?
When I was at school I didn't fit in. It's only when I discovered eBay vintage in the early 2000s that
I realised you could dress like a vintage movie star – and sing like one too!
What has been the highlight of your career to date?
Singing for the BBC's WW1 commemoration at the Edinburgh Fringe was wonderful. An off-West
End season of my wartime song show in 2010 was also a real highlight for me.
What has been the best event that you have performed at?
The Black Cat Cabaret is one of my favourite events, their 'montmartre' themed show on London's
Southbank was fabulous.
If you could perform with anyone (past or present) who would it be?
George Formby or Gracie Fields.
