No.38 Vintage Emporium features a number of hand picked traders that offer a stylish and uncluttered environment. Offering affordable vintage and handmade items whilst bringing the past back to life. Philippa Handy and Sarah Bell tell us more...

What inspired you to start your business?
We had both been in a number of emporiums as traders ourselves but wanted to take control and offer an emporium with a difference where the styling is important and the customers can enjoy their visit without worrying about knocking items over. We wanted to be uncluttered and a place where people would enjoy to visit and come back time and time again. We wanted to get away from the "junk shop" appearance.

What has been the highlight since launching?
The response from the customers and the support from everyone. We recently had a six month anniversary to celebrate being on the high street and the postman arrived had some free ice cream and went off telling everyone to come and party with us! The public response has been amazing with everyone wishing us well, enthusing about the shop and hoping we stay, "just what Newport Needed" is a familiar phrase at No.38.

What have you got planned for the year ahead?
We aim to get better known in this area and the surrounding area through the use of our developing website and social media. Looking into the possibility of running our own vintage fairs too to attract more visitors to the area. Plus trading under one umbrella at some of the larger fairs.

How would you like to see your business grow & develop over the coming year(s)?
We aim to expand by firstly trying out some pop up shops in areas such as Woburn Sands. We would like to attract customers from further afield too. We have a backer who would like to help us open another shop in South Bucks too.

What is it about "vintage" that you find most appealing and what is your favourite era?
It's the longevity of it, the style, the memories. It just makes us smile! The Art Deco period is a particular favourite of ours plus the music of the forties which is on in the shop all day.

Why should the public vote for your business in this category?
We have taken an empty shop and made it something very special on the high street. We have brought new customers to Newport Pagnell and are told by the other shops that we have increased footfall in the area thereby helping other shops to thrive. We have put our heart and soul into this business to make it happen.

A little more on No.38 Vintage Emporium...
Our traders are all very supportive and everyone in this emporium helps each other. We have a secret group on Facebook that's a traders page where we can all help each other and source items for customers so we can all give 100% to make it work.
