INTRODUCING Verve Rockabilly Studio - Rockabilly Lifestyle at heart of Confidence-Boosting Photography

Verve Rockabilly Studio is based in London and run by Veronika Kotkova who follows a certain lifestyle; Rockabilly. This, along with the pin-up phenomenon "not just a 'look', or a 'trend'; it is a lifestyle one which has been close to my heart for many years", therefore gives her the confidence to take a client and create a beautiful rockabilly styled image. Veronika Kotkova tells us more...

How would you describe your photography style?
Classic/Editorial Vintage

What drew you to this genre over other styles and subject matter?
I started in fashion but I've always been stuck in the 50s and 60s in my mind. I absolutely adore curves and a woman's beauty when it is captured in a classy way. When I first came across with images of Bettie Page, I knew that this was the path I wanted to follow.

I do fashion sometimes but it's not something that is really in my heart; especially because fashion is all about young, amazingly pretty, tiny girls. There are so many rules and I don't like that, I like real women. I'm from the Czech Republic and Czech girls are real women.

I can shoot a beauty of a doll that is size 8, but also an incredibly gorgeous and sexy size 24 lady for example. I love that!!! The curvier, the better :)

Vintage style is very classy and it is very difficult to look tacky, which is something that I really don't like.

There is nothing better than a customer who is not very confident with their body leaving with a huge smile on their face telling me that they felt a million dollars :)

Who would you most like to photograph (past or present) & why?
My biggest dream is to photograph Dita Von Teese, she is an incredibly inspiring person to me.

Also if I had the chance to take pictures of Bettie Page, that would be a dream come true for me.

What do you enjoy most about being a vintage inspired photographer?
That I can help with confidence to a lot of ladies, I do not only want them to leave with pictures that will remind them of a fun day, but also want them to change how they think about themselves.

How would you like to see your business grow & the Vintage Industry develop over the coming year(s)?

I would love to see my studio grow in a way that I could have more classes about hair and make up tips, I would also like to grow myself, get better at retouching etc. I think that there is alway room for improvement even though I am proud of what I have achieved so far.

And the whole industry, I hope that vintage life style is not going to be such a taboo and just a thing that some communities do, but everyone will see how classy and beautiful vintage style is.
