INTRODUCING LOUISE ROSE COUTURE - Will it be as sweet as roses for her reproduction business?

Louise Rose Couture design and produce 50s inspired collections, handmade in the UK, providing quality and exclusivity. They take pride in creating flattering and classic cuts, making Women feel fabulous. Will they be the perfect fit for the Best Reproduction Award? Find out more from Louise Rose herself...

What inspired you to launch this as your business?

I have always had a love for fashion and vintage and have been designing and making garments for over 12 years. My degree and industry experience provided me with the necessary skills to move things forward and I was itching to create something wonderful, and so Louise Rose Couture was born (formerly known as Contrariety Rose)! It is the best feeling in the world when a customer is thrilled with their dress!

What drew you to "vintage" & what is your favourite era and why?

Various things drew me to vintage; I love that it creates a story from the past and I just love the fashion and the cuts of many different eras. My favourite has to be the late 40s — 50s. Diors 'New Look' changed fashion and I have always loved the full skirts and nipped in waists.

Who are the majority of your customers?

My customers are a wide combination of pin up models, performers and ladies of all ages, shapes and sizes who just love the style! I also create a lot of 50s style wedding / bridesmaid dresses for our lovely customers.

Where do you supply to?

In-store I supply in the UK, I have a lovely space in Creative Crafts Boutique in Reading. Online I supply worldwide, through the Etsy platform and our website is currently being redesigned, which will include its own stand-alone shop which we are very excited to launch at the end of May.

What is your most popular item?

The dress we have sold the most of has to be The Dorothy Dress! Classic full circle 50s halter dress with a sweetheart neckline.

We take time finding unique prints that stand out from the crowd and this worked particularly well in our striking bird print.

Do you use authentic vintage patterns and/or design your own patterns?

I design and create my own patterns, I design vintage styles, but use modern sizing to cater for all Women. I offer UK sizes 6-24 and made to measure.

How would you like to see your business grow & the Vintage Industry develop over the coming year(s)?

My goals for the business is to go into UK small production runs to supply to select boutiques. I would like to continue providing our vintage inspired bespoke service locally, which is hugely popular with our brides and bridesmaids. The Vintage Industry is making a huge impact on the way people shop and I'd like to see this continue. Many people are opting for vintage and handmade. Shoppers are more aware of the environment of buying original vintage, as well as garments being ethically made and the long lasting quality that handmade garments offer.
