I am Keeley Harris, Director of Discover Vintage. Discover Vintage was established in 2009 and we try to introduce innovative vintage events. In the past 5 years we have created various different event brands including The Festival of Vintage, Vintage Home Show and Vintage Wedding Fair.
What do you have planned for your business in the next year?
The Plan for Discover Vintage in 2014 is to continue growing visitor numbers to our events as well as launching a Blog and working on other vintage related projects and new business ideas. Keeley is also launching a book about Vintage Homes in October.
What are your favourite vintage events?
My Festival of Vintage is of course one! But I also love Twinwood Festival and this will be the 4th year of attending.
Why did you decide to enter the NVAs?
I entered The Vintage Wedding Fair as an opportunity of recognition for all the hard work I have put into the event. I also kept getting told by customers that it is the best they have been too! It's also great PR.
How did you feel when you won?
I felt like crying and nearly did! Very happy with such a great achievement.
Has anything changed since you won; has it helped your business to grow?
I have renamed my event the National Vintage Wedding Fair, it has added more kudos and is officially the best! It has generated more Press attention and even more exhibitor enquires.
What was the most positive thing about entering the NVAs?
Getting recognition and meeting other vintage businesses in the flesh that you have seen on the web. It's great for networking.
Were there any downsides?
None really, apart from the party finishing too early!
What would you say to other people who are thinking about entering in 2014? Do it, you should be proud of your business.
What business tip/quote would you give to anyone starting out in the vintage industry?
Research your market, work really hard and enjoy it, it's better than a proper job!
