Meet The 2013 Winners: Abigail's Vintage Bridal, Best Vintage Wedding Dress Supplier
Abigail's Vintage Bridal was created in 2009, having spent years in the fashion (and film) industry Abigail finally decided to follow her heart and sell original vintage wedding dresses. She sources original vintage wedding dresses from all over the world from as early as the late 19th Century right up to about 1964. Using her years of experience the dresses are restored and cleaned and presented as part of a collection that currently runs to nearly 200 frocks.
What do you have planned for your business in the next year?
The collection of vintage wedding dresses is due to get even bigger with a particular focus on early lace from 1900 to 1920. Also we are working ever closer with producers of underwear and shoes to help our brides get just the look and shape they want, and are creating an ever growing selection of accessories based on vintage jewellery.
What are your favourite vintage events?
For fun you just can't beat Goodwood; the combination of everyone in the finery and hot engine oil takes some beating.
Why did you decide to enter the NVAs?
It was and is the only dedicated awards for the vintage industry so it would have been rude not to!
How did you feel when you won?
I was wonderful just to get through the voting let alone winning.
What was the most positive thing about entering the NVAs?
The brides who had already decided to buy a dress from me were absolutely delighted that their "secret" had been validated.
Were there any downsides? What would you say to other people who are thinking about entering in 2014?
There is no reason not to enter this competition.
What business tip/quote would you give to anyone starting out in the vintage industry?
You have to do this for love, and ideally have someone who can count work with you.
